Treatment For Varicose Veins Improved By New York Surgeon

Dr. David Greuner, surgical director of NYC Surgical Associates says the “No-Knife Endovenous Laser Treatment” reflects his philosophy to provide minimally invasive procedures with the best possible results.

“The No-Knife procedure is especially suitable for patients with darker skin tones who may be prone to hyperpigmentation, or dark discoloring at incision sites, and those prone to keloid formation,” says Dr. Greuner. The procedure is a completely knifeless laser variation of the conventional endovenous laser procedure for varicose veins.

With the conventional method the surgeon makes a small incision in the leg and a sheath is used to pass a radio frequency or laser catheter into the blood vessel. This ultimately leaves a 3-10mm scar, depending on the procedure. While this isn’t significant in patients with fairer skin, even a small scar can be a significant drawback for patients with darker skin types and for younger women who wish to wear shorter skirts and swimsuits.

In the No-Knife procedure a small needle is used to enter the vein, using ultrasound guidance. “We can avoid leaving a scar by utilizing a specially designed very thin laser fiber and the most modern laser technology available,” says Dr. Greuner. “This laser fiber is specially engineered to be able to fit directly through a needle, eliminating the need for a scalpel. After treatment the small entry point fades.” Dr. Greuner and the No-Knife procedure was featured in this recent story on “The Doctors”. Call 888-286-6600 for more information or for a consultation.
