Lipedema Exercises

Lipedema and Exercise

As exercise will not reduce lipedema fat, exercise is essential to maintain good health. Exercise will help to reduce stress on the joints, increase lymphatic flow, and make you feel better psychologically. There are tons of workout routines to achieve all of the above, and improve your overall quality of life, regardless of your lipedema.

About Lipedema

Lipedema is a disorder generally affecting the legs, causing them to accumulate fatty tissue. The hands and feet are not affected, however in some cases the arms can be. Unlike the typical fat of obesity, diet and exercise cannot eliminate lipedema fat. Lipedema occurs almost exclusively in women, and can affect women of all sizes, from seriously underweight to morbidly obese.

4 Simple Exercises for Ladies with Lipedema

Aerobic exercises are designed to strengthen your heart and lungs. They will also get your joints moving so they do not become stiff and weak. Some aerobic exercises include walking, running, swimming, dancing or bicycling.

Pilates is a good way to strengthen the body and get the joints moving and the lymph flowing. It is also easy on the joints so as to not overwork the body, causing more harm than good.

Yoga and other ways of stretching will increase lymphatic flow and decrease the pressure put on the joints. Some yoga poses work against gravity, helping the lymph flow away from the legs.

Weight Lifting

Weight lifting will help to strengthen the body while getting the joints to start moving and get the lymph fluid to start flowing. However, be sure not to strain your muscles by lifting too heavy. It is best to start light, and gradually over time move up from there.
